Already as a child and teenager Andy started to improvise at the piano and got involved in composition, film music as well as musical theory.
At various music fairs and concerts he played by ear many well known pieces
that people called for and improvised freely on any given musical theme.
As a teen he was active in several bands as main composer, guitarist and vocalist. While he was still in school, his band “The Dice” released two albums with his own songs and they were published and released by Rough Trade and Sony Music.
Andy went on to study piano with Professor Grigory Gruzman and Professor Ilja Scheps at the prestigious “Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt” (Academy of musical arts).
While still a student he accompanied on the grand piano some of the great classics of the silent movie era – at cinema concerts all over Germany and France.
Later on he went to study film scoring at the film academy in Ludwigsburg and got his diploma in 2003.
Since then Andy Groll made himself a name as one of the leading film composers in Germany for TV as well as feature film. He can look back at a track record of more than 50 films in various genres.
All over his work Andy is showing a unique musical versatility, in orchestral music as well as in virtually every popular music style.
His œuvre also includes film songs – like the central song “Again” from the movie “Da geht noch was / There`s more to come” which was released as single and on the soundtrack by Sony Music and on his own EP “Short and Frail”.
As an accomplished songwriter and lyricist he has written and performed hundreds of songs in all musical styles.
Andy Groll lives and works as a freelance composer in Berlin.
